Two ways of learning to mean what we see, 2021-1818

The Hawaii bird on the left is a mejro or white-eye, Zosterops japonicus. The bird on the right was observed in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, and the observation is annotated, “Jacob Leith, you learned your ABC with diligence and likewise copied the little picture.
