Portrait, ca. 1910-2014

In one of his garbage bags he carries the two blankets he took with him on the day he left his home. In another he carries the teddy bear he has had ever since he was a little boy who lived in a house with a mother and slept in a bed. And this is Cookie. Cookie is the limping little dog who sleeps with him at the curb under the blankets and shares his smell.

A cab drives past. In it rides Tom Friedman, excitedly learning about hedge funds from the driver.
